How To Begin Your School Bridge Club
Now that you have attended the Learn to Play Bridge in A Day seminar, you will want to all the steps necessary to begin your school club. From marketing, to the structure of your club, here is all you will need to know.
Teaching materials
Click here for a list of all the different teacher materials provided by the ACBL. Most have links provided where you can print the information. When you register online, the ACBL automatically sends you the best curriculum for your age group, but its only nice to check out the options!
Attract Students to School Bridge Club
We all know the benefits of youth playing bridge, but getting students to sign up for School Bridge Club can sometimes be a challenge. Here are some ways you can help grow your membership.
Letter to Send Home to Parents
It’s important to let parents know the activities that are available to their children. With all the educational and social benefits bridge provides youth, why wouldn’t you want to alert parents? Here is a sample letter for you to send home.
Youth Scholarship Opportunities
Bridge isn’t just about the fun, there are also college scholarship opportunities available to children of all ages. Make sure to let your students and parents know!
Play Bridge Online
At an age when video games are more popular than card games, now your students can combine the joy of both! Here are instructions on how they (and you) can play bridge online.
ACBL Educational Foundation
This is a charitable trust fund that provides grants to promote the education of bridge. If you are looking for a grant to hold a tournament, or additional funding for your School Bridge Club, this is a great place to start.
W-9
In order to receive your stipend, the ACBL will need a W-9 on file for you. Please fill out the form and send it back to us.
School Bridge Club Verification
School principals need to verify that you have in fact provided 16 hours of bridge instruction to at least 8 students in order for you to receive your stipend. Have your principal copy & paste, complete the form with the relevant information, and email it to the ACBL at schoolbridgeclub@acbl.org when you are nearing the end of your instruction. It is a new regulation for 2012 that the verification come from the school principal’s official email account.
Minor Consent and Release Form
If you plan to send photos of your School Bridge Club and your end of class tournament winners, the ACBL would like to have parent permission to publish their child’s photo on the web. Please have your students parents fill out this form to grant permission.
Photographer’s Release
If you, the teacher, are not the photographer of the pictures you send us, let us know. It’s always nice to give credit where credit is due. If the photographer is a professional, we will need a release form signed by them, allowing us to publish the photos.
